Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Center, Inc. (ODB) was a perfect vision and a way to follow my dreams. My story was both incredible and common! It’s a story of struggle, abandonment, triumph, and a story of hope. My siblings and I were raised in a home with an absent father and our mother was young with four small children. Two of my brothers and myself were placed in foster care system for approximately ten years. During that time, we faced an abundance of social challenges such as: lacked positive role models, poverty, limited resources, etc. My past childhood inspired me to follow my aspirations and help other young girls.
I founded ODB with the aim to encourage and motivate young girls to dream big dreams. After ODB was born, my mother became the backbone of the agency for over years until her health failed her. With ODB, my mom followed in my footsteps and became more caring and compassion with young girls. As ODB, made it presence in the community, I devoted much of my adult life to making sure all parents and children have the tools they need to actually change their behaviors effectively. ODB believes anyone can change at any point in time in their life. “You just have to want it, and you have to be willing”, stated Lea Kyle-Lewis.
In the beginning, ODB’s mentoring program began in 2006 meeting at Milwaukee Public Library with four young ladies. Six months later, we moved into our first commercial space, 6400 W Capitol Dr. Shortly after the move, ODB incorporated tutoring shortly and in July 2008- December 2008, job readiness pilot program was added. With the success of that programs, in 2010 ODB revamped the program and changed it to SMART Teens. In 2010 ODB was invited to partake in the Milwaukee County Angel Tree lighting. This was also a year of growth for ODB and we were granted license as a service provider for Milwaukee County Behavioral Health for teens with AODA issues, Justice 2000. We also launched a new youth internship program called FUTURE for 11th and 12th high school students. In 2011, ODB relocated and moved into a larger facility located 6040 W Lisbon Ave; in 2013 ODB launched another program prenatal care coordination, care coordination services. Today, ODB has a multitude of sponsors and relationships with many partners in the community and designing another community program for mothers.
